We’ve scoured the internet, interviewed lawn & garden experts, and spoke with a few entomologists to come up with an extensive list of 21 ways to kill & control mosquitoes. Let us knows if you have a solution that that we’ve missed and we’ll added it to the list.
#21 Beer
Mosquitoes love to bite folks when they are out on the patio drinking beer. Now this isn’t the case with all alcohol but beer is definitely is something mosquitoes are attracted to, so much so that if you leave some beer out in a glass over night there’s a good chance you’ll find some mosquitoes dead and floating on top in the morning. Unfortunately this is a terrible waste of beer in our opinion. So lets move on to some better and more effective alternatives.
#20 Smoke/Candles
Mosquitoes have a keen sense of smell and are attracted to things based on that smell. Smoke is one thing mosquitoes dislike the smell of which are why candles make an effective mosquito deterrent.

#19 Bounce Dryer Sheets
Again smell is the key. Evidently mosquitoes don’t like the smell of Bounce. So if your willing to rub some dryer sheets on our arms and legs, and it doesn’t make you breakout, then more power to you. You can be mosquito bite free and smell like a fresh load of laundry.
#18 Garlic & Diet
So garlic is known to keep away blood sucking vampires and it’s also good at keeping away blood sucking mosquitoes. If you decide to test it out you’ll notice after eating a meal heavy with garlic mosquitoes will leave you alone. You also want to avoid salty foods and food high in potassium as this increases the amount of lactic acid that you off-gas which mosquitoes are attracted too. You may also want to consider using garlic-scented lotion to keep the flying vampires away.
#17 Gin or Rubbing Alcohol
If you go to the Caribbean islands you’ll notice more than a few island residents will be drinking or smell like gin. The reason being is that like garlic mosquitoes will avoid those who drink gin or if you can get some really cheap gin or rubbing alchohol you can rub it on your skin. Just stay away from match if your you use the rubbing technique.
#16 Plants
The lantana plant has proven to repel mosquitoes but it also can be poisonous to pets, cause allergic reactions, and be invasive in some areas. Some other plants can help but have a lesser repelling affects are Other plants may have a minor effect are citronella, lemon grass, any citrus fruit, lavender, basil, rosemary, mint, and catnip.
#15 Essential Oils
Camphor Oil & Tea Tree Oil are known to give a scent that keeps mosquitoes at bay. To make an effective insecticide mix equal parts of neem oil and coconut oil and rub it on all exposed areas. This will protect you from mosquito bites for at least eight hours.
